HCI

History

Holland Container Innovations (HCI) was founded in 2006 as a spinoff from the Delft University of Technology by four driven entrepreneurs to successfully market the idea they had for a foldable container. The potential impact of this innovation was quickly realized by many people and resulted in a number of awards. HCI has won several prizes in the Netherlands, such as New Venture Round 1,2&3, the Ernst & Young business case award 2007 and the Philips Innovation Award 2007. Since then HCI has made a quick development that has resulted in the first full-size prototype early March 2009. HCI is currently located in the YES!Delft incubator.

Vision

HCI has a clear vision for the coming years. In the years ahead, even despite the economic challenges facing the world economy today, containerized transport will keep on growing. In combination with exponential growth of trade imbalances in the world, the issue of rising costs for unproductive repositioning and storage of empty containers will increase accordingly. Combined with the global need to reduce CO2 emissions strongly, Holland Container Innovations will make a compelling difference.

Future

The core competency of HCI is Research & Development (R&D). HCI focuses on delivering new products to the container market using excellent engineering. The first product is the HCI Foldable Container. When this product is successfully launched, more products for the container market will follow. HCI plays an active role in marketing, but aims to limit the involvement in the other parts of business by creating strong partnerships and employing a smart business model. This allows HCI to use its core competencies effectively.
